Attendance Policy:
 
* Attendance at all practices and games is mandatory.
 
Excused Absences Excused absences shall be defined to include the following:
* Absence due to illness of the player.
* Absence due to a serious illness or death of a family member.
* Family vacation planned prior to the selection of teams.
* Absences due to scheduled school or church activities.
* Absences due to schoolwork or assignments (subject to time management).

The Head Coach may determine exceptions to the above, provided the same are enforced uniformly.
Unexcused Absences Unexcused absences shall be defined to include the following:
* Failure, in a timely fashion, to advise the Head Coach of the absence.
* Failure to obtain, in advance, the approval of the Head Coach.
* Absence due to family trips or vacation planned after team selection.
* Absence due to conflict with other sports/teams. The Metro Program must be your #1 Priority.
Consequences of Unexcused Absences * Missing 1 practice - Player shall not be allowed to start the next game.
* Missing 2 practices - Player does not play in the next game, but must attend.
* Missing additional practices - Player does not play in the next game, but must attend.
* Missing 1 game - Player shall not be allwed to start the next game. #1 Priority.
* Missing 2 games - Player does not play in the next game, but must attend.

Appeals of all sanctions for failure to attend shall be permitted by submission of written request to the Head Coach and CAYBBA President. Decisions shall be the sole discretion of the head coach.

 
Drug, Alcohol & Tobacco Policy:
  The CAYBBA believes that all players and coaches participating in a CAYBBA youth activity should refrain from the use of alcohol and/or controlled substance.

It shall be a violation of this policy for a player or coach participating in a CAYBBA youth activity to use a beverage containing alcohol or use, consume, have in possession, buy, sell or give away any controlled substance.

Once a violation has been brought to the Board's attention and the CAYBBA Board has made a decision, the player or coach will be informed of his or her ineligibility via a written letter from the CAYBBA board.
First Violation Upon notification by the Board, the player or coach shall lose eligibility for the next two consecutive games or two weeks of a sport season in which the player or coach is participating, whichever is greater. No exception is permitted.
Second Violation The player or coach shall lose eligibility in the CAYBBA for that season. No exception is permitted. No refund.
Accumulative Penalties Penalties shall be accumulative beginning with and continuing throughout the players or coaches participation in the CAYBBA.
CAYBBA Tobacco Policy The CAYBBA does not condone the use of tobacco by players under the legal tobacco age.

It shall be a violation of this policy for a player participating in a CAYBBA activity to use tobacco.

Once a violation has been brought to the Board’s attention, the player will be informed of their ineligibility. The ineligibility will be the same as for the Drug/Alcohol Policy.

The basketball program demands a drug, alcohol and tobacco free sports environment. Coaches and parents will refrain from the use of alcohol or tobacco before or during practices and games.

 
Unsportsman-like Conduct Policy:
  The CAYBBA reserves the right to dismiss at any time a player, coach or parent who by their conduct creates significant problems for the team or disrupts practices or games or creates a negative impression on the CAYBBA program.

Unsportsmanlike-like conduct by a player, parent or coach will not be tolerated.
First Violation Upon notification by the Board, the player, coach or parent shall be suspended for 1 game.
Second Violation The player or coach shall lose eligibility in the CAYBBA for that sport season. No exception is permitted.
Cumulative Penalties Penalties shall be cumulative beginning with and continuing throughout the players or coaches participation in the CAYBBA.

 
Grievance Policy:
  When a player, parent, or coach has a concern regarding policies, procedures or behavior, the following steps should be followed to resolve the issue:
1. Address the concern with the person.
2. If the problem persists or is unable to be resolved between the player or parent and the coach, bring it to the attention of the program coordinator.
3. The program coordinator should meet with the involved parties to discuss the situation and find a solution. If mediation is unable to resolve the issue, a meeting with the president will be necessary.
4. The CAYBBA board members will discuss the issue and make a decision on the issue. The decisions of the CAYBBA president will be final.

 
Coaches Code of Ethics:
  I hereby pledge to live up to the following CAYBBA Coaching Code of Ethics:
* I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of my personal desire to win.
* I will remember to treat each player as an individual, remembering the large spread of emotional and physical development for the same age group.
* I will do my very best to provide a safe playing situation for my players.
* I promise to review and practice the necessary first-aid principles needed to treat injuries to my players or find appropriate staff to do so.
* I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players.
* I will lead, by example, in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players.
* I will ensure that I am knowledgeable in the rules of basketball, and that I will teach these rules to my players.
* I will use those coaching techniques appropriate for each of the skills that I teach.
* I will remember that I am a youth coach, and that the game is for children and not adults.
* I will demand a drug, alcohol and tobacco-free sports environment for my team and agree to assist by refraining from their use at all games and practices.
* I will be the Head coach for only one Metro team participating in the MYAS structured tournaments and leagues.
* If there is an overnight travel event for the team, I will refrain at all times during the trip from the use of any drugs or alcohol. However, a coach may engage in the moderate consumption of alcohol provided the alcohol is consumed in compliance with all laws.

 
Parents' Code of Ethics:
  I hereby pledge to live up to the following CAYBBA Parents' Code of Ethics:
* I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches and officials at every game, practice or other youth sports event.
* I will place the emotional and physical well being of my child ahead of any personal desire to win.
* I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.
* I will provide support for coaches and officials working with my child to provide a positive, enjoyable experience for all.
* I will demand a drug, alcohol and tobacco-free environment for my child and agree to assist by refraining from their use at all youth sports events.
* I will remember that the game is for children and not for adults.
* I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child.
* I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability.
* I will promise to help my child enjoy the youth sports experience within my personal constraints by assisting with coaching, being a respectful fan, providing transportation or whatever I am capable of doing.
* I understand that the CAYBBA reserves the right to dismiss at any time a player who by the conduct of their parent significantly creates problems for the team or after verbal warning continues to disrupt practices or games.
* I will assign responsibility for my child to the coach if I am not present at games.

 
Players' Code of Ethics:
  I hereby pledge to live up to the following CAYBBA Players' Code of Ethics:
* I will do my best at all practices and during all games.
* I will listen to my coaches while at practices and at games.
* I will practice good sportsmanship by treating all players, coaches, parents and officials with respect.
* I will not use profanity. I understand that I will be warned for the first offense and, at the discretion of the coach, can be suspended from play for the remainder of the current practice, current game or for the following game.
* I will do my best to help my parents get me to games and practices on time.
* I understand that improvement comes from practice and sometimes I may decide to practice on my own, away from scheduled practices and games.
