A motion was made to remain with a paid coach for 9th grade boy’s basketball. Motion was moved (Y=10, N=0).
It was suggested that CAYBBA move away from tryouts for 9th grade metro prior to High School tryouts. CAYBBA tryouts will start on 09/24/2006. High School will hold their tryouts on 11/03/2006. Players that were not selected will be given the opportunity to tryout for the 9th grade metro team. The 9th grade high school team(s) will compete at conference games, tournaments and non-conference games. Metro team(s) will be able to compete in 6+ tournaments. Also, Parents will be able to form teams prior to the tryout to compete in the Chaska Tournament.
The board recommended that a panel of members from the Executive Board and Boy’s Basketball Staff conduct interviews for the head coach.
CAYBBA may have possible parent candidates interested in coaching metro team(s).
Girl’s 9th grade basketball will remain without a paid coach.
3. Increase number of players on all A level Teams
A motion was made to amend the bylaw: “A” teams will have
a total of 8 players to; the “A” team shall be
made up of the top 8-9 players.
. Motion was moved (Y=10, N=0). The Bylaw will be amended and posted on the website before the start of tryouts.
4. Metro Head Coaches
All parents that have selected Head Coach on their registration forms will be interviewed. Interviews will start during tryouts. Parents interviewed will be selected for Head coach in the level that their child is ranked and placed.
5. Gym Space 2006-07
A report indicated that Chanhassen will offer a full year of basketball for grades 1-6. Victoria Elementary will be their primary site for games. CAA apologized for not considering the impact increased gym utilization would have on CAYBBA and other groups within District 112.
CAYBBA received an increase of +15 hours in addition to what we already have secured. It is not clear if CAYBBA will have enough gym time to accommodate all of its program’s teams. We will research how much time is needed for metro and in-house teams. Community Ed has a website that we can use to monitor and possibly recapture unused gym time.
It was recommended that metro teams practice at the larger gyms; and place younger in-house teams at smaller and lower grade gyms (tile floors).
1st – 3rd grade programs will utilize Chaska Elementary for practices.
Patty will have a tentative schedule for the in-house leagues as early as next week.
7. Tryouts & Evaluations
Board Members will get total number of players that will tryout before next week. CAYBBA could get an influx of players on the second day of tryouts as “word of mouth travels.”
Next board meeting will be schedule after tryouts
