President's Report:
Ray Wolf reported that the Chaska Traveling teams are reporting great success on tournament results. Most teams have multiple tournament wins.
Possible coach change at the 8 grade girls "C" level.
CAYBBA received a complaint from the Edina Basketball Association that a girl's coach made negative remarks that were over heard by Edina coaches and parents. Ray will remind all coaches to use good judgment and positive comments when addressing Chaska teams in public areas.
Bluff Creek has been underutilized. There are open dates on Tuesdays and Saturdays. CAYBBA will investigate if a 7/8th grade "Rebel" team has been using the time.
4th-8th Grade In-House
Bill Kemble reported that there are 473 players on 48 teams playing in-house. The "draft" format for team selections are working well. Most teams are equal in talent; and most teams have won games.
Bill reported that CAYBBA should hold a clinic for younger and new referees. Although most of them have basic basketball knowledge, they need to be educated on the integral parts of the game. Feedback has been positive for all current referees.
CAYBBA may need to recruit in-house coaches prior to starting the in-house season.
Bill reported that most of the in-house teams are using more "team plays" verses "superstar plays". Some coaches need to focus on basketball fundamentals.
Parents and coaches have recommended that CAYBBA schedule the older grades in the larger gyms to avoid injuries. The smaller gyms might be too small for the level of activities that are being done.
CAYBBA is exploring the feasibility of NOT allowing 4th graders to press " with the exception of those players preparing for "traveling competition". The CAYBBA would be willing to make an exception in the second half of the season.
1st-3rd Grade In-House
Coaches need to focus on basketball fundamentals.
CAYBBA is exploring the feasibility of NOT allowing 4th graders to press " with the exception of those players preparing for "traveling competition". The CAYBBA would be willing to make an exception in the second half of the season.
Treasurer's Report
CAYBBA needs to follow-up with players' parents still owing fees
Wren Feyereisen reported using Quicken software has improved her ability to monitor funds; and that all of CAABYA's balances are current and financially sound.
CAYBBA awarded 9 scholarships to area residents for player participation.
Community ED / Gym Schedule
The partnership between CAYBBA and Community ED regarding sharing gym space has worked extremely well! Coaches have been able to reschedule and select "open" gym time from CAYBBA's website and we've received very few complaints about gym time as a result.
" Patty has a list of phone numbers for after hour contacts. Patty suggested that CAYBBA have at least two board members with contact lists to cover one another if one member is not available
CAYBBA awarded 9 scholarships to area residents for player participation.
Website
Kevin Kolle will be updating the CAYBBA's website by this summer. Potential updates will include a team page and new spreadsheet posting.
Metro Tournaments
Mark Theis reported that the Boys Metro Tournament was a great success. The profits exceeded all expenses.
The Girls Metro Tournament will be played on February 10th and 11th. The tournament has between 4-8 teams per grade and level. CAYBBA will look into sending tournament notices early next year. Time was limited due to the change in dates when the tournament was held.
Mark suggested that CAYBBA use the same format for setup, tournament monitoring and cleanup as the Boys Tournament.
CAYBBA would like to setup at Chaska High School immediately following Friday's boys basketball game. Games will start promptly at 8:00am Saturday morning.
Registration
Mark Hassenstab suggested that CAYBBA move to a paperless registration process next year. Walkups would still be welcome and there would be some exceptions for paper registrations for the younger grades and people new to CAABYA.
Additionally, we should repost the "Refunds" clause due to the confusion for those players not making the Metro-team but will be playing in-house.
New Business
Ray Wolf will resign from his President position this upcoming spring. Two executive board members have shown an interest in filling the vacancy.
CAYBBA will initiate talks with Chanhassen about possible solutions to Metro and in-house issues that may arise with the addition of the second high school. We will also solicit input from other associations regarding how they "separated their divisions".
